Training to be world leaders, a group of 520 young "diplomats" from six countries are here now to discuss, debate and find peaceful solutions to political, social, economic and environmental issues that threaten the world today.

The students are part of the Indian Model United Nations Conference (INMUN) -- a copy

from Indonesia, Bahrain, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and India are participating in this three-day initiative of the Ryan International Group of Institutions that ends on Saturday.

Ryan International Group of Institutions managing director Grace Pinto explained: "The INMUN conference is an endeavour to train the young people of today to resolve the most crucial issues confronting the world through peaceful dialogues. Independent research, oration, resolution writing and effective communication are some of the competencies that the participants we hope will become proficient in during the course of the conference."

Ryan International Group of Institutions chairman Augustine F. Pinto said: "The INMUN is a mock enactment of the UN Assembly with the objective of providing the senior students from across the world the opportunity to comprehend the dynamics of international diplomacy. The conference offers students from the world over a global perspective on major international and peace related issues. This year the theme is 'Young Leaders for World Peace'."

The conference has completely replicated the working of the various wings of the UN. "A lot of learning took place as we deliberated on issues of global concern like real life international diplomats. Among the interesting features of the conference is World Press that brings out a bulletin of the daily deliberations at the conference," said Gunjan Chawala, secretary-general of INMUN.
