FUTURE DIPLOMATS MET AT INDIAN MODEL UNITED NATIONS 2011

800 aspiring delegates from various parts of the world resolve to find the best way forward to peace and progress through dialogue and discussions at the Indian Model United Nations (INMUN) organized by the Ryan International Group of Schools from the 3rd to 5th November 2011.

With the United Nations celebrating the International Year of Youth 2010-2011, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General, United Nations stated "Youth should be given a chance to take an active part in the decision-making of local, national and global levels." The INMUN reflects the sentiment and is annually organized where enthusiastic students and youth from India and various countries like Indonesia, Nigeria, Nepal, Sri-Lanka represented 120 countries to discuss, debate and form consensus to pass resolutions offering solutions to the burning issues of international importance. The delegates also interacted with public figures learning and being inspired.

This year, the eminent speakers include Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyar, Member of Parliament, Mr. Itay Tagner from the Israel embassy, Mr. Suresh K Goel, Director-General, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi.  With the theme “Share the World” the conference provided a platform to collaborate and network to overcome differences and conflict in order to resolve modern-day problems of socio-political and economic dimensions.  The students raised issues like : Measures to regulate Cyber warfare by nation states,  Role of Science and Technology in the context of International Security and Disarmament, Addressing systemic poverty in the twenty poorest countries,  Influence of oil super majors on the global economy, ICT & Millennium development goals, Climate security & green technology, The Korea issue & its impact on peace in Asia, Peace & stability in West Africa, Investigations into the nuclear capabilities of Iran , Syria & Israel,  Japan's Nuclear Crisis & safeguards of Nuclear Reactors in disaster prone regions, Protection of resources in coastal areas following disasters like Tsunamis, hurricanes , etc.,  Reduction of disaster risk and vulnerability in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, Cyber crimes & identity threat, Enabling price parity and equitable distribution channels for essential and life saving drugs.

The Managing Director of Ryan International Group of Institutions appreciated all the delegates for their commendable efforts in making this conference a success and mentioned that “this conference will provide wide platform to young ambassadors to acquire and assimilate the art of diplomacy and then spread the serene radiance of peace throughout the world”.
