Ryan students explore Diplomacy - prepare to become Future World Leaders

Students of Ryan International Schools were amongst the 480 international youth leaders who participated in the Presidential Classroom's Future World Leaders Summit from July 9 - 16, 2005, in Washington, D.C. The students, from 33 countries representing Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and North America, spent the week discussing international relations, diplomacy and the world economy.

Students attended seminars throughout the week that included speakers such as Ambassador George F. Jones, Director of the Democracy & Governance Programmes Development Associates, Inc.; Ambassador Rudolf V. Perina, Deputy Director of the Policy Planning Staff, U.S. Department of State; and Ms. Erika Eckstut, Holocaust survivor.

The Summit also included discussions on international topics at a plenary session where the young leaders formed and voted upon resolutions. These resolutions focused on such issues as human rights, arms control and terrorism. Students enjoyed taking part in the World Trade Game and attended a performance by the political satire troupe, the Capitol Steps.
